ITV audiences were deeply moved this evening, as Queen Camilla’s poignant remarks opened the powerful documentary ‘Her Majesty The Queen: Behind Closed Doors’. The special, broadcast on Monday night, provided a 90-minute insight into The Queen’s yearly duties, focusing particularly on her personal interactions with domestic abuse survivors.
Queen Camilla, who has been a passionate supporter of efforts to combat domestic violence since 2010 and became the Patron of SafeLives in 2020, began the programme by voicing her profound dismay at the widespread nature of what she described as this “terrible, very sad, heinous crime.”
She made an appeal for increased public conversation, mirroring her own shock when initially confronted with these issues: “By scratching the surface, you get a terrible shock. It’s such a terrible, very sad, heinous crime. If we could just get more people discussing it, talking about it.”
