Vice President Kamala Harris laughed off Fox Newsreporter Peter Doocy when he asked for an interview late Thursday night after her Democrat National Convention speech.
‘Hi Peter. How are you?’ Harris replied after Doocy called her name.
‘I’m working toward it!’ Harris said with a laugh.
As the chief White House correspondent for Fox News, Doocy has earned anger and scorn from Democrats for needling President Joe Biden with uncomfortable questions that resonate with his audience.
Harris spoke briefly to the White House press pool of reporters as she exited the arena after delivering her speech.
When other reporters asked how she felt, Harris said, ‘I feel good! On to tomorrow.’
‘Listen we’ve got 75 days to go, so maybe for better and for worse, that’s the way I am,’ she added. ‘That was good. Now we gotta move on.’
Harris has gone 33 days as the Democratic presidential candidate without sitting down for an interview with the press.
Harris spokesman Michael Tyler told CNN’s Jim Acosta that they would probably have the vice president sit for sit-down interview by the end of the month.
‘We will commit to directly engage with the voters who are actually going to decide this election,’ he said. ‘And that is going to be complete with rallies, with sit-down interviews, with press conferences, with all the digital assets that we have at our disposal.’
As Vice President, Harris has a record of struggling in sit-down interviews, trying to laugh off uncomfortable questions or spiraling into word salads.
Since becoming the presidential nominee, Harris has struggled even in brief exchanges with reporters.
In an unscripted answer about how she would pay for her proposals, Harris repeated the slogan ‘return on investment’ four times in less than a minute.
